Yosemite Mandarins
Yosemite Mandarins are a hybrid with Temple tangor, and Dancy and Encore mandarins. The rind is an orangish reddish color. The flesh is seedless and very sweet. They are a smaller sized mandarin with a thin skin that is easy to peel.
Blood Oranges
Blood oranges are one of my favorites right now. The Moro variety is the most popular with flesh that ranges from light organish red to a dark purple the longer it stays on the tree. The flavor is rich and sweet and perfect for that Sunday mimosa party. They can be found from February through May.
Page Mandarins
Page mandarins are a cross between a Minneola tangelo and a Clementine mandarin. They are usually seedless with a rich sweet flavor. They are extremely small to about medium sized with a orange-red color.
Minneolas
The Minneola tangelo is a cross between a Duncan grapefruit and a Dancy tangerine. They have thin reddish orange skin that is easy to peel and the shape is like a bell. The fruit combines the sweetness of the mandarin with the tart flavors of the grapefruit, and it is highly prized for its juiciness and combination of sweet/sour flavors. Right now the flavors are amazing and they are on special this week!
Forelle Pears
Forelle pears are a little larger than a Seckel pear and perfect for snacking. They are dotted with beautiful red freckles and have a delicious, sweet and tangy flavor with a crisp texture. When they ripen the freckles remain and the green skin turns yellow.

Pistachio Nuts
Pistachios are harvested starting in early September through October depending on the area they are grown. The trees are shaken with a mechanical shaker onto tarps, instead of the orchard floor. They are collected on the tarps to be dried and de-hulled and no human hands will touch them during harvest because any hand oil would stain the shells.
Pistachios are a cholesterol free snack, a one oz serving of pistachios has as much potassium as an orange and pistachios contain more than 10% of the daily value of dietary fiber and essential vitamins and minerals like B6, thiamin, copper and phosphorous. Earl’s just got a shipment of delicious roasted and salted pistachios from Nurses Pistachio Orchards in Paso Robles.

Sweet Potato Varieties
Earl spent an evening baking and taste testing different sweet potato varieties. His findings? Japanese Sweet have an intense sweetness with a floral scent. Hannah Sweet have a light cream colored flesh with a dry texture like a potato. Garnet is the classic sweet potato with deep orange fluffy moist flesh. Jewel is aromatic and spicy with a stringy firm textured flesh.

Satsumas
If you are worried about staying healthy this winter eat four or five Satsumas a day to receive six to seven times as much synephrine, a natural decongestant, as other citrus. Satsumas are also naturally low in calories and a single fruit contains 34 percent of the USDA daily recommendation for vitamin C.
